Director of John Wick 4 teases movie’s emotional ending

Director Chad Stahelski teases that the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 will be emotional and feature many cool visual elements. The John Wick franchise has continued to grow in popularity since the release of the first film in 2014. Throughout John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Keanu Reeves’ titular assassin faced increasing numbers of enemies in a variety of exciting settings. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum concludes with Reeves’ Wick being betrayed by Winston (Ian McShane).

A short teaser for John Wick: Chapter 4 has already teased some of what’s in store for the highly-anticipated sequel, including a look at several new cast members. Apart from Reeves and McShane, the sequel will also feature Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgrd, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins, and Clancy Brown. Additionally, the teaser featured some of the franchise’s signature action, with Reeves’ Wick facing off against Yen’s Caine. Director Stahelski has already confirmed that John Wick: Chapter 4 will have the longest runtime of the franchise.

Stahelski describes the complexity of the film’s ending sequence in a recent interview with Collider, promising that it will be emotional and have the franchise’s signature visual flair. The director explains that they’re still working on some of the ending’s finer details in the editing room, admitting that the climactic sequence is “a little bit more of a puzzle than [he] thought.” In the end, however, Stahelski is confident that John Wick: Chapter 4 will have a satisfying conclusion.

With each subsequent installment of the John Wick franchise, the franchise continues to outdo itself in terms of endings. The franchise continues to make each ending, if not bigger, at least more exciting, whether it is the fistfight at the end of the first John Wick, the mirror-hall shootout in its sequel, or the sword fight at the end of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Franchises continue to make their endings, if not bigger, then at least more elaborate and exciting. As John Wick: Chapter 4 will take the franchise around the world, it remains to be seen where the franchise’s climactic ending sequence will take Reeves’ assassin.

Although the endings of all previous John Wick films have been action-packed and exciting, they have not necessarily been highly emotional, suggesting that the upcoming sequel may be looking to change that. Since John Wick 5 is still reportedly in development, audiences can likely be relatively confident that Wick himself will survive. Stahelski’s comments indicate that John Wick: Chapter 4 will be bigger and better than ever before, despite the fact that the sequel is still some time away from being released in theaters.
